Multi-Panel Sliding Doors: Diagnosing the Whole System

By Mike Sullivan

Inspecting a multi-panel sliding door system in Atlanta.

In a multi-panel opening, one panel can affect the next. Telescoping, stacking, or bypass panels rely on aligned tracks, consistent roller height, proper guides, and interlocks that meet in sequence. A single dropped panel can create rubbing, prevent full closure, or keep the final lock from engaging.

We operate each panel separately and as part of the complete opening. Contact marks show where loads transfer. The inspection covers every active roller path, panel-to-panel connection, stop, guide, weather seal, and locking point.

Replacing only the loudest roller may not correct a system with uneven panel heights. Likewise, adjusting the final lock before the stack closes correctly treats the last symptom rather than the first cause.

Why does the first panel move but the others resist?
A carrier, interlock, guide, roller, or track issue may be preventing the panels from engaging and moving in the designed sequence.
